Alabama Butterfly Atlas

The Alabama Butterfly Atlas needs your help!

Every year, we must pay $2,750 for maintenance, improvements, and updates. We are asking for your support, and these are the reasons we think the ABA is worthy of it. The Alabama Butterfly Atlas is the ONLY place where Alabama butterfly sighting records are collected and analyzed. It provides detailed ID tips, photographs of life stages, flight charts, and life history information for each of the 156 species that have been documented in this state. It is a free service, funded by people like you, that puts science-based information in the hands of those who need it. More than 300,000 educators, conservationists, and enthusiasts have used it since it launched in 2017, and that number is growing by leaps and bounds--last year's number of users was listed as approximately 200,000!

Donations of any size are needed and appreciated. Those who contribute $100 or more will receive a limited-edition, hand-signed and numbered 8”X10” archival photographic print of a Red-banded Hairstreak photographed by Karen Chiasson. Karen has been a dedicated ABA volunteer. Her work has been featured in publications that include American Butterflies and Outdoor Alabama. We are honored that she is sharing this lovely photo with us!

Contributions are made through the UWA Foundation and are tax deductible.

Thank you for helping Alabama’s butterflies!
